Glenburnie Livestock Report 03/06/20

A smaller yarding of cattle this week with all cattle selling fully firm.  Feedlotters dominated the young cattle market with steers selling again over the $4 mark.  Quality overall was mixed.  Finish and breed is playing a big role in determining price.  Bullocks 330-390c, grass fed yearlings 360-429c, milk vealers to 382c per kg.  Heavy cows remained firm at 280-300c per kg.

A better quality yarding of prime bulls sold to strong demand to be fully firm selling from 240-300c per kg.

124 bullocks yarded this week.  The yarding was very mixed and more dairy types were yarded.  The best of Angus bullocks sold to 390c per kg.

Quotations: Reg Edwards & Son, Mt Schank, 10 dehorned Her bullocks 360c $2347.00.  Kongorong Holdings, Brown Swiss steers 288c $1689.60.  WE & TA Wallace, OB Flat, Her Frs x bullocks 283c $1966.85.  R & TR Paltridge, Eight Mile Creek, Frs x steers 315c $1272.89.

YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Liam Durcan.

329 yearlings and vealers yarded.  Once again yearling steers sold over the $4 mark in a very strong sale.  Breed and quality are again determining price as trade struggled to keep pace with feedlotters.

Quotations:  Peucker Farms, Mil Lel, grass fed yearling Hereford heifers 332c $1574.93.  PF & BA Burchard, Tantanoola, 12 Angus steers made a market top of 424c $1839.10.  Their sisters 389c $1643.50.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Andrew Whan.

194 cows yarded - mainly empty beef cows - selling to a strong buying group with the best beef cows selling to 300c per kg.  Medium frame cows 240-260c, light chopper cows 180-230c per kg.

Quotations:  RI & JM Telford, Glenburnie, Angus cows 260c $1412.18.  Day Family, Mount Schank, Friesian cows 266c $1928.50.  V & K Peucker, Mingbool, a pen of 24 Hereford cows sold to 300c to average $2006.18.  Peucker Farms, Mil Lel, Hereford cows 280c $1815.33.  Teresa Sealey, Casterton, Hereford x cows 244c $1276.93.  JP & EL Nicholson, Suttontown, lightweight cows 225c $866.25.

SHEEP & LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller & Liam Durcan.

641 sheep and lambs sold, similar to last weeks yarding.  The usual array of buyers were present in a dearer market.  Export lambs enjoyed the limelight with 24 to 26kg lambs from $220 to $235.  The trade lambs 22 to 24kg gained momentum from $210 to $218.  20 to 22kg well shorn trades sold exceptionally well from $195 to $208.  14 to 18kg trade lambs weren’t big in numbers and wholesalers and restockers bid from $138 to $178.  Heavy xb ewes sold to $160.
