Glenburnie Livestock Report 04/03/20

Beef prices have stepped into the autumn still gaining momentum with some impressive lifts in prices of 7 to 10 cents.  The young cattle market has a very strong base with feedlot and restocker orders again seeing prices well over the $3 mark.  Vealers topped at 376c, grass fed yearling steers 370c with heifers at 339c per kg.  Cows lifted 10 to 15 cents per kg with heavy weight cows selling to 287c and light weight cows 190 to 225c per kg.  Medium cows 230 to 265c.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan

Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices on par with the previous week with heavy sound bulls making from 250-310 cents per kg.

Quotations: Hillside Hereford bull 300c 985kg $2955.  Belgrave Pastoral Hereford bull 290c 1060kg $3074.  Lotsmore Char bull 310c 1045kg $3239.50.

669 bullocks yarded and prices lifted 10 to 15 cents per kg on all classes of bullocks and manufacturing dairy steers.  Bullocks topped 346c, dairy steers 285c.

Quotations:  DH & CL Rose, Heywood 10 outstanding Angus bullocks topped the market at 345c 823kg $2841.08.  MW & MA Patzel, Moorak 9 Angus bullocks 327c $1911.13.  JL & NS Fartch, Burrungle 9 Hereford bullocks 326c $2262.14.  AF & GA Elijah, Casterton, Angus bullocks 336c $2234.40.  KP Bouchier, OB Flat, 12 Friesian steers 288c $1687.20.  KHT & SJ Smith, Eight Mile Creek, 7 Friesian steers 262c $1354.91.

602 yearlings and vealers yarded.  Overall, most young cattle were plainer in quality.  Strong feedlot and restocker competition saw prices remain fully firm to dearer.  Best vealers sold to 378c.  More young cattle sold over the $3 mark.  Grass fed yearling steers 370c, heifers 339c.

449 cows yarded.  The large yarding met very strong processor competition to sell 10c higher.  Best heavy beef cows topped at 287c, medium frame cows 246c to 265c.  Light chopper cows 190c to 220c.

Quotations:  Jakero Charolais cows 245c $1365.88.  MM Patzel cross bred cows 250c $1460.42.  Kongorong Holdings 32 outstanding Shorthorn x cows made a market top 287c $2150.71.  RE Brown 14 Hereford cows 285c $1779.21.  SL & AJ McSwain Angus cows 284c $1996.52.  Hillside sold a run of 71 Hereford and Angus cows to average 271c per kg returning $1367.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

2761 sheep sold, 878 more than last week.  A very strong market with the usual array of regular buyers buoyed by the strongest restocking order yet seen.  This evolving strong market producing great returns for patient vendors.  The best export lambs returned highs from $270 to $280 being $5 dearer for the 30kg+ range.  Equally as strong the 26 to 30kg range were from $256 to $264 and the 24 to 26kg lambs sold from $232 to $244 with some attractive pens presented.  The big lift happened in the supermarket lambs from 22 to 24kg at $216 to $230 with unforeseen highs from $8 to $15 dearer.  Ideal trade lambs at 20 to 22kg were pushed by restocker activity at $196 to $213, therefore realising lambs at 18 to 20kg from $176 to $196.  The strongest orders were up to $183.  Very light lambs from 12 to 16kg were $115 to $159.

Quotations: Reg Edwards & Son 54 lambs @ $256.  Oliver Noms 430 lambs from $208 to $232 to ave $222.  ML & CE Clake 49 lambs @ $188.
