Glenburnie Livestock Report 08/07/20

Quality and numbers declined this week.  778 cattle came forward with reduced yardings of both bullocks and cows.  Both the bullocks and cows sold at lower rates while the young cattle sold at fully firm rates.  A larger run of bulls were firm on last weeks prices.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am

The yarding consisted of British bred bulls.  The usual buyers competed at fully firm rates of 268-288c per kg.  MWJ offered a good run of 13 mainly Poll Her bulls.

Quotations:  PS & KE Vandepeer 3 Poll Her bulls 288c 1040kg $2995.  Reg Edwards & Son Poll Her bull 280c 1005kg $2814.  Peucker Farms Poll Her bull 280c 995c $2786.

BULLOCKS:  Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Peter Creek.

A smaller run of bullocks and steers that lacked the weight of previous weeks.  Prices were 10-15c per kg easier as buyers were more selective and a heavy feeder order was absent.  Best heavy steers 345-378c per kg.  Frs steers 270-302c per kg.

Quotations: JK & MJ Moores Char steers 378c 518kg $1959.  DA & LF Firth Ang x steers 352c 550kg $1936.

YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Scott Miller.

The young cattle sold at firm rates with both trade, feedlot and restocker orders operating.  Quality was mixed with not as many 380-480 trade weighted cattle available.  Heavy heifers over 500kg 320-365c per kg.  Trade heifers 340-390c per kg.  Trade steers 360-408c per kg.  Very few vealers penned.

Quotations:  Char x heifers JK & MJ Moore 350c 515kg $1802.  Her x heifers A/c H Caldow 361c 550kg $1985 and 378c 477kg $1804.  Ang steers (same account) 385c 443kg $1708.  AW & BF Heinrich’s Poll Her heifers 363c 377kg $1368.  L & G Pasin offered a big run of Ang Ang x heifers – feedlots were very keen to secure at rates of 390—403c per kg.  An outstanding result.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Andrew Whan.

A much smaller, plainer run of cows this week that sold to softer competition in line with other markets.  The best medium/heavy beef cows 260-306c per kg.

Quotations:  GC & RIK Reichelt Char cow 280c 655kg $1834.  AW & BF Heinrich Poll Her cows 255c 670kg $1705.

SHEEP & LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller & Liam Durcan.

411 sheep and lambs sold, 138 less than last week.  The very small yarding of mixed sheep and shorn lambs was met with very solid competition.  Only a small number of heavy lambs 24 to 26kg came to hand selling from $198 to $208 and selling at firm rates.  Trade lambs from 18 to 24kg sold from $110 to $176.  There were no light lambs yarded, so there were no opportunities for restockers.  The mutton market dropped back markedly, with falls of $20.  The best heavy xb ewes sold from $140 to $145.
