Glenburnie Livestock Report 10/7/2019

Cold conditions greeted agents, buyers and vendors on Wednesday morning, with the predictions of heavy rain and strong winds.  A few more better pens of bullocks were yarded this week, and these sold to stronger competition.  Yearling cattle held firm, while the plainer run of cows did not reach the feverish competition of last week, to be easier.  The overall yarding was smaller with 530 coming forward.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Liam Durcan

Approximately 13 bulls yarded, of varying weights and breeds.  The better heavy bulls sold from 208c to a top of 240c per kg (an outstanding Limo bull).

Quotations: PHJ & JM Croft 1 Murray Grey bull 222c 890kg $1975.   SM & ADJ Hinton 1 Jersey bull 200c 605kg $1210.

BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan.

A very mixed run of heavy steers and bullocks, that featured a very good top end.  The better quality sold from 300-340c per kg or 5-12c per kg higher.  The many plainer and dairy x types sold at similar rates.  Manufacturing type steers 220-285c per kg and Frs steers 185-240c per kg.

Quotations: Nacooma, Casterton again topped the MWJ run with a pen of Ang x, vendor bred, at 327c 701kg $2293.  GRJ & VJ Closter Ang/MG Frs x steers 230c 407kg $938.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller.

Yearling heifers sold to strong buyer demand, as these were of the better quality yarded.  The yearling steers were more suited to feeder enquiry and many plain store types came forward.  The better heifers to the trade made 270-310c per kg while heavy heifers over 500kg 245-285c per kg.  The yearling steers made 275-312c per kg.

Quotations:  JG & CK Clarke’s Poll Her heifers 265c 554kg $1469.  GC & RIK Reichelt Char x heifers 275c 575kg $1581.  The Mountford family again topped our yearling run with 12 Ang heifers 302c 392kg $1186.

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Andrew Whan.

A smaller, plainer run of cows this week, without the pens of heavier beef cows.  The competition wasn’t as fierce as last week but quality could have been a factor.  Best med/heavy beef cows 215-252c per kg.  Light beef cows 150-195c per kg.

Quotations:  WE & TA Wallace Her Frs x cows 226c 640kg $1446.  AW & BF Heinrich Poll Her cows 235c 637kg $1498.  Shorthorn cows A/c P Caskey 234c and 235c topping at $1444.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

693 sheep and lambs sold, 680 less than last week.  While it was only a small run of mixed lambs and sheep, prices were extremely good.  Four exporters competed on the small numbers of export lambs from $185 to $221 for 22 to 26kg lambs.  Rounded trade lambs sold to dearer rates for 18 to 22kg from $168 to $180.  Restockers were strong bidding from $138 to $173 on 18 to 20kg lambs.  Smaller pens of light lambs sold at $80 to $118.
