Glenburnie Livestock Report 12/02/20

AUCTION SYSTEM DRIVES PRICE INCREASES

The Auction system is again driving livestock prices upwards at Glenburnie.  A much smaller yarding of 1568 cattle came forward, this being a huge reduction of 500.  Quality again was very good, with producers seeing price gains of 10-20c per kg across all weights and types.  A full field of export and trade buyers competed with feedlotters and restockers to secure market share.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan

Bulls sold to stronger demand lifting 15-25c per kg selling from 278-310c per kg.

BULLOCKS:  Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Liam Durcan

The Glenburnie Saleyards reputation for yarding quality bullocks was again enhanced on Wednesday.  Many outstanding bullocks came forward, predominantly bulls 650kg+.  A full field of export buyers competed strongly seeing price gains of 10-15c per kg on last weeks dearer rates.  Bullocks 600kg+ realised 300-322c per kg.  Heavy steers 500-600kg met both export and feedlot competition at 304-330c per kg.  Feedlots purchased steers 450-500kg for 315-350c per kg, up to 25c dearer.  The x bred steers 245-285c per kg while Frs steers made 225-268c.

Quotations:  A quality offering in the MWJ run saw all weights and classes well represented.  An outstanding run of Ang bullocks was penned.  MJ Cleaver’s Ang steers 307-314c $1896.  KJ & MJ Mountford’s Ang x ox 312c 673c $2101.  GR & BA Jolley Ang ox 312c 682kg $2129.  MR & JB Saffin’s Ang ox 306c 649kg $1967.  Bob Brown’s Ang ox topped the MWJ run 319c 756kg $2412.  A quality run of heavy steers saw Belgrave Grazing Her steers 312-315c 597kg $1862 and T & N Little’s Her Shn x steers 312c 555kg $1733.  KHT & SJ Smith’s Ang Frs x steers 284c 601kg $1708.

YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Scott Miller

A smaller run of young cattle, with more quality vealers penned.  The strong feedlot presence forced trade buyers to lift rates 15-25c especially on the better vealers.  The milk vealers to the trade realised 320-350c for steers and heifers.  Heavy grass heifers over 500kg 275-300c per kg.  Trade heifers 400-500kg 280-315c per kg.  Feedlot buyers were feverish in their bidding seeing steers purchased from 318-350c and heifers 285-310c per kg.  Restockers were very strong on lighter weights.

Quotations:  DF, NJ, & CD Stuchbery Char x steers 310c 532kg $1650.  AJ & M Reichelt Ang steers 348c 475kg $1655.  BR & HM Creek Sim x steer vealers 325c 361kg $1175 and Sim x heifers 310c 325kg $1010.  A very strong sale.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Peter Creek

With cows being quoted dearer at other markets, a surprisingly much smaller yarding of cows came forward.  The drop in quality did not deter buyers with cows surging 15-25c on last week.  The best heavy beef cows 244-285c with lighter cows 195-240c per kg.  Again restockers were active on suitable cows.

Quotations: Heavy Ang cows A/c JG & CK Clarke 272c 792kg $2155.  ME & GY Thompson Ang cows 272c 680kg $1849.  Char cows A/c DF, NJ & CD Stuchbery 272c 655kg $1781.  Wallace Forestry Ang cows 258c 523kg $1351.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

1351 lambs and sheep sold, 849 less than last week.  An even smaller yarding of good quality lambs to last week, but with that, premium shorn export lambs excelled in price with restockers buying to new levels.  Vendors were rewarded, outpricing the hooks prices with 28 to 34kg lambs from $245 to $272.  Some excellent pens of shorn lambs at 22 to 26kg sold from $210 to $244.  Trade lambs were also dearer by $6 to $8 from $190 to $205 for the 20 to 22kg weight range.  Restockers paid up to $145.  Heavy xb sheep sold from $175 to $195.

Quotations:  A/c Reg Edwards & Son 212 extreme heavy labms from $244 to $272.  A/c Karinya 23 shorn skin attractive lambs at $270.
