Glenburnie Livestock Report 12/06/2019

The market was again held in wet, wintery conditions with good falls predicted for this week.  860 cattle were yarded to the usual field of export and trade buyers.  Quality was similar to previous weeks with some prime cattle and a big proportion of secondary, plainer types and this will continue till the spring.  Prices were at least firm to dearer compared to last weeks market.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Liam Durcan

BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Scott Miller

A very small yarding with only a few pens showing good cover and condition.  Even with a lack of quality, prices were dearer 5-12c per kg lwt, with the best making 294-309c per kg with plainer types 250-288c per kg.  A few pens of Frs steers realised 170-198c per kg.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Liam Durcan

Prices improved for the better quality trade heifers this week, with the best making 258-290c per kg, this being up 5-8c on last week.  The yearling steers to the trade made 280-292c per kg.  Those suitable for feedlot competition made 275-304c per kg.  The heavy heifers over 500kg again received strong demand with the best making 250-282c per kg.

Quotations:  KJ & MJ Mountford’s heavy Ang x heifers 272c 610kg $1659.  3yo Her heifers A/c Vinebanks Past 259c 515kg $1335.  Her and Ang x steers A/c HP & SS Goodman 295c 402kg $1186.  A quality run of trade heifers in the MWJ run met strong competition.  Peucker Farms 35 Her heifers topped at 288c per kg and averaged $1149.  Prime Ang x heifers A/c HP & SS Goodman 287c 417kg $1196 and Her heifers 280c 410kg $1148.

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Scott Miller.

A larger run of cows with more plainer types coming through.  The cow prices remained firm on last week, with dry cows with weight in demand.  Medium/heavy beef cows 195-238c per kg.  Light cows to exporters and restockers 155-190c per kg.

Quotations:  KJ & MJ Mountford’s Her x cows topped the MWJ run 235c 575kg $1351.  RC & PJ Cowland’s Her cows 218c 671kg $1462.  Vinebanks Past Her cows 224c 563kg $1261.  A run of Frs cows made 170-188c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

1193 sheep sold, 1662 less than last week.  A combination of inclement weather and a major correction in lamb prices hindered numbers.  Three exporters were present and 26 to 28kg lambs sold from $228 to $245.  No heavy trades were yarded but the 20 to 22kg trades sold from $183 to $211 selling to fully firm rates, with healthy competition.  18 to 20kg medium trades were from $140 to $165, and 16 to 18kg light trades were $115 to $135.  Restocker activity was non-existent, so all smaller lambs 12 to 16kg sold $47 to $95.  Large xb wths sold to $185.

Quotations:  A/c AH & JA Vanrijthoven 24 lambs @ $228 and 5 large wths @ $185.  A/c Belkella 9 lambs @ $195.  A/c ML & CE Clarke 40 lambs $136.  A/c Chloe, Jakero 19 lambs from $165 to $169.  A/c DA & LF Firth 142 lambs from $47 to $133.
