Glenburnie Livestock Report 15/7/20

Cold conditions greeted agents and buyers on Wednesday with heavy fog until late morning.  A few better pens of young bullocks were yarded this week and these sold to stronger feedlot competition.  Yearling cattle held firm while the plainer run of cows did not reach the prices of last week.  Best bullocks sold to 369c.  Yearling steers to 420c, heifers 320-385c per kg.  Best beef cows to 304c, medium frame cows 220-260c per kg.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am

A smaller yarding of bulls sold to a smaller field of buyers with prices easing by 10-15 cents.  Heavy sound bulls making from 245-270c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c Mt Eccles Estate 1 Angus bull 270c 960kg $2592.  A/c NT Scott 1 Poll Hereford bull 265c 930kg $2464.50.

BULLOCKS:  Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Peter Creek.

208 bullocks yarded with more young 0-2 tooth bullocks coming forward.  These sold to 365c, mainly 320-345c per kg.  Manufacturing steers 254-270c per kg.

Quotations: PF & BA Burchard, Tantanoola, 36 bullocks sold to 360c $2207.45.  KA Sanders, Yahl, Hereford bullocks 346c $1816.50.  M Cowie, Kongorong, dairy steers 270c $1363.50.

YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Scott Miller.

311 yearlings and vealers yarded with very mixed quality.  Trade, feedlotters and restockers bid keenly on better bred lines.  Best grassfed yearling steers sold to 412c, mainly 325-378c per kg.  Grass fed heifers 274-385c per kg. 

Quotations:  IN & EM Mills, Coleraine, 8 outstanding grass fed Angus heifers made 255c $2047.91.  KJ & MJ Mountford, Penola, topped the sale with 7 Angus x heifers 385c $1421.75.  NT Scott, Heywood, Hereford steers 360c $1638.00.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Andrew Whan.

238 cows yarded.  Although the heavy beef cows remained fully firm, all other cows eased 5-7 cents.  Best beef cows 304c, medium frame cows 260-285c, light chopper cows 200-225c per kg.

Quotations:  BC & WM Cutting Hereford cows 296c 645kg $1909.00.

SHEEP & LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller & Liam Durcan.

803 sheep and lambs sold, 392 more than last week.  The improved yarding sold at fully firm rates with medium to heavy lambs selling well.  The 24 to 26kg lambs sold from $175 to $203, and 22 to 24kg heavy trades were at $168 to $178.  Lighter lambs were in short supply with only a few pens offered.  These 16 to 18kg lambs were $110 to $120.

Quotations:  Rocks Road Holdings 112 lambs from $168 to $188.  JL & NS Fartch 112 lambs from $168 to $175.


Buoyant prices across all classes of cattle were dominated by feedlots on better bred lines of young cattle over 320kg.  Heavy cattle above 500kg ranged between 390 to 410c per kg while cattle between 400-500kg made between 420-450c per kg.  Light weight weaner cattle 220-300kg selling from 450-500c per kg, with very good returns for producers.  Cows and calves sold to $2850.  PTIC cows, August calvers $1500 to $1800. 

NE Scott, Drumborg, Poll Hereford steers 543kg $1870.  RG & ME Scott 14 Poll Hereford steers $1670.  PA & JA Johnson, Nelson 11 Sim x steers $1320.  Bassendean Farms, Strathdownie, 24 Angus steers $1260, 15 B/B steers $1240.  Bask Family Trust Angus heifers $1310.  HP & SS Goodman 18 Angus heifers $1080.
