Glenburnie Livestock Report 15/8/19

A much better day greeted producers and buyers at Mount Gambier this week.  The very wild weather at the end of last week did provide some very welcome rain.  The similar sized yarding of 729 sold to the usual field of buyers.  Again the yarding was very mixed, but the top end quality was better with some cattle being very well finished.  All classes sold at firm rates to last week.

1081 sheep and lambs sold, 847 more than last week.  While it was only a small yarding, quality lifted with some excellent pens of shorn lambs.  All buyers were present, no restocker activity and one butcher purchasing the best pen of the day at $215 for 25kg lambs or $8.60.  Majority of the lambs were between 20 to 22kg, selling from $170 to $187.  Lighter trades 18 to 20kg were $148 to $155.  Wholesalers purchased very light lambs 14 to 16kg from $74 to $88.

1991 cattle were yarded.  Competition came from local, SE South Australia and Western Victorian buyers.  The heavy steers over 380kg were not the quality of recent sales and sold at rates 10-20c per kg less or 300-335c per kg $1100-$1500.  The heavy weaners made $950-$1200 while the 300kg and under weaners met strong buyer demand selling $750-$1120.  The heifers sold to strong demand with both feedlotters and restockers very active.  The feeder heifers over 350kg made $980-$1200, while the lighter heifers made $670-$980.
