Glenburnie Livestock Report 17/1/18

The cattle market continued to fall this week with 2286 yarded to subdued demand leading to cheaper prices throughout the sale.  Yearling and vealers were the most affected with prices for steers and heifers generally 5 to 15 cents easier.  Bullocks eased 10 cents although good weights were reported.  Most bullocks 250c to 276c.  Dairy steers 190c to 210c.  The cow sale generally remained firm on the previous week.  Dairy cows 170c to 205c.  Beef cows 205c to 215c with market top 225c for young trade weight cows.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan

A larger run of Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices firm on the previous week with heavy sound Bulls selling from 200 cents a kilo to a market top of 244 cents a kilo.

Quotations: M & A Baxter 1 Limo bull 244c 950kg $2318.00.  Trott & Warner 1 Angus bull 238c 1220kg returned $2903.60.  Highbury 1 Angus bull made 232c 1075kg $2494.00.

744 bullocks yarded in an excellent quality run.  Prime bullock prices were 10 cents cheaper than last week with dairy steers 12c easier.

Quotations:  N & J Smith, Allendale East 25 Angus bullocks 0-2 tooth 269c $1503.13.  RJ & LM Heaver, Moorak 45 outstanding Angus bullocks made 265c to average $1516.36.  KJ & MJ Mountford, Penola 13 Angus bullocks 265c $1598.15.  GK Davidson, Keith 82 Poll Hereford bullocks sold to a top of 266c to average $1812.77.  Vickery Bros, Coleraine 33 Angus x bullocks 288c $1468.45.  JL & NS Fartch, Tantanoola 9 Angus x bullocks 255c $1868.58.  Reg Edwards & Son, Mt Schank 10 Hereford bullocks 252c $1850.94.  M Schmidtke Friesian steers 198c $1110.45.

1003 yearlings and vealers yarded.  Again some very good vealers came forward still showing weight and some sap.  A full field of Victorian wholesalers with competition subdued had prices falling 10 to 15 cents on all yearlings and vealers.  Restockers were not as active due to paddock feed disappearing.

 Quotations:  Kleenview Partners 17 Angus x heifers 253c $1191.33.  N & J Smith 17 Angus heifers 263c $1151.06.  Belkella 11 Poll Hereford heifers 250c $1154.17.  Merna 11 Limousin x steer vealers 290c $1281.27.  M Baxter 12 Limousin steer vealers 286c $1238.14.  ML & GY Thompson Angus steer vealers 278c $1345.52.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Scott Miller

208 cows yarded.  Generally cow prices were equal on the previous week with beef cows carrying big weights.  Most beef cows 205c to 215c.  Dairy cows 170c to 200c.

 Quotations:  Engler Enterprises Angus cows 216c $1512.00.  R Luzinat Angus cows 202c $1242.30.  D Phillips Friesian x cows 190c $1235.00.  C Damhuis Dairy x cows 176c $1064.80.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

5393 sheep sold, similar to last week.  The smaller field of buyers along with numerous restocking orders operated on a very mixed yarding.  The majority of the yarding were of store to forward store condition. While not great in numbers the export lambs sold were of great quality.  Values across the board saw prices subdued by $5 to $8.  Premium export lambs 26kg to 30kg plus were $152 to $188 and 24 to 26kg at $134 to $163.  An additional export buyer competed with prices firm to $8 cheaper.  Trade lambs 20 to 24kg sold from $114 to $138.  Restockers engaged store woolly lambs from $50 to $108 and good runs of shorn store lambs were $69 to $115.

Quotations:  A/c AM & AJ Telford & Sons 100 shorn well rounded L @ $180.   A/c Reg Edwards & Son 159 premium export L @ $178.  A/c Oliver Noms a magnificent run of 434L from $144 to $163.  A/c RG & SM Day 4L @ $117.  A/c Bassendean 419 shorn store L from $63 to $113.  A/c G & RIK Reichelt 120 XBE @ $108.
