Glenburnie Livestock Report 18/3/20

Quality was mainly good in the mixed offering that sold to a regular field of processors, with a strong following of restockers. Price averages remained unchanged for most categories of cattle but there were slightly cheaper sales at times, especially on heavy weight bullocks and yearlings.  The cow market again was very solid with best cows making 288c.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

4529 sheep and lambs sold, 1632 more than last week.  The larger yarding of shorn lambs was met by a bigger field of buyers with general values easing.  Restockers were strong again with numerous pens of forward store shorn lambs being presented.  The best export lambs sold from $250 to $254 being $20 to $30 cheaper for the 26 to 30kg range.  24 to 26kg rounded lambs sold from $220 to $239, being $10 to $14 cheaper.  22 to 24kg trade lambs were $204 to $224 and 20 to 22kg were $182 to $200 – all these trades didn’t suffer the losses of heavier lambs.  Restockers traded up to $172 on good shorn lambs with the 12 to 16kg lambs sold from $110 to $160, and the 16 to 18kg were $167 to $172.

Quotations:  PF & BA Burchard 69 lambs $230.  G & RIK Reichelt 29 lambs $205.  DJ & LM Kuchel 80 lambs from $168 to $184.  Barr & James 11 Suff lambs $186.  V & K Peucker 27 xb ewes spring shorn $210.

A much larger than advertised yarding of 4100 cattle came forward, mainly local drafts of vendor bred yearlings, intermixed with some northern cattle.  Heavy steers 380-450kg made $1650.  The tempo of the sale strengthened with multiple pens of locally bred cattle being offered.  These well bred lines hovered around $1000 to $1150 or 380c per kg.  It was very apparent once off of the well bred lines, that the inferior type cattle sold $20 to $50 cheaper.  Good lines of heifers met strong restocker competition with some sales equal to steer rates of 380c.
