Glenburnie Livestock Report 20/05/20

Good rain across the Upper and Lower South East and Western Districts was welcomed by all.  A similar sized yarding of 784 cattle.  All classes of cattle sold to dearer trends with feedlotters dominating the young cattle market.  Prices for yearlings were over the $4 mark.  Bullocks sold to 387c per kg, yearling steers and heifers 362-412c per kg.  Best of the cows to 308c per kg in a very animated sale.

A better quality yarding of bulls sold to strong demand lifting 10 cents in price selling from 240-300c per kg.

215 bullocks yarded.  All bullocks sold to dearer trends with some price increases up to 20 cents.  Best Angus bullocks sold to 387c.  Manufacturing dairy steers 275-336c per kg.

301 yearlings and vealers yarded in a very animated sale.  The best prime trade yearlings and vealers sold over the $4 mark.  Steers 375-410c per kg.  Vealer heifers to 412c per kg.  Grass fed yearling heifers 288-400c per kg due to quality.

Quotations:  Hayden Caldow, Moorak, grass fed yearling steers 406c $1999.25.  RD & JM Mickel, Coleraine, 17 Hereford heifers 376c $1688.47.  Peucker Farms, Mingbool 28 Hereford x heifers sold at 383c to average 380c $1595.62.  Humphries Properties, Heywood, Angus heifers 360c $1395.00.

256 cows yarded, mainly empty beef cows selling to a strong buying group, with best beef cows selling to 308c per kg.  Medium frame cows 238-276c per kg.  Light chopper cows 160-228c per kg.

791 sheep sold, 68 less than last week.  In a similar yarding to last week, the best export lambs sold to firm rates, while trade lambs proved $2 to $4 dearer.  This was because of the strong demand by restockers on medium trade lambs with orders pushed up to the $180 mark.  Best export lambs of which there were very few of, sold to last weeks rate of $230 for 26 to 30kg weight range.  There were no 24 to 26kg lambs penned.  22 to 24kg lambs sold from $197 to $210.  All trade lambs 20 to 22kg were from $170 to $185.  Lighter 16 to 18kg lambs were from $140 to $165 and there were none or little inferior types.
