Glenburnie Livestock Report 20/2/19

A similar size yarding to last week. There was a full field of buyers presented and operating in a solid sale. Quality is paramount for price increase as cattle lack finish and inferior bred remain difficult to sell. Bullock market remained firm, vealers and yearlings saw prices lift on improved quality lines. Strong feedlot competition maintained a solid base for young cattle. Cow prices lifted on the heavy beef cows with more cows selling over the 200c per kg mark.


BULLS:  Sold at 9am.

Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices on par from the previous week with heavy sound bulls selling from 200-225c per kg  and the better shape euro bulls from 230-235c per kg.

207 bullocks yarded. Some excellent bullocks carrying weight sold to 276c per kg to fully firm, with young bullocks selling to 282c per kg. Dairy steers 155-185c per kg being 5-8c per kg dearer.

410 yearling & vealers yarded. More of the grassfed yearlings and vealers are starting to lose their bloom however good quality sold to dearer trends lifting 5-10c per kg. Grassfed yearling steers topped 281c per kg with vealers 312c per kg.

373 cows yarded with more heavy beef cows coming forward which saw strong competition to sell 3-5c dearer with more cows selling over the 200c per kg mark. Dairy cows 130-170c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  


1800 sheep and lambs sold, 249 less than last week.  Another smaller yarding of mixed shorn lambs and assorted store lines. A dearer market as witnessed with the heavier trade and export lambs benefiting. Not all exporters were operating but Vendors were rewarded for heavier lambs. 26 to 30kg lambs $185 to $198 being $4 to $5 dearer, 24 to 26kg lambs returned great results at $160 to $180. The trade section of the market also received a boost, with $4 to $6 dearer trends. 22 to 24kg from $145 to $162 and well-rounded shorn 18 to 20kg from $135 to $146. One strong restocker provided the main stay for forward store lambs, resulting in lambs at $120 to $133.

The Foster Family of Boonaroo again produced an excellent group of even outstanding future breeding bulls. 95 young Angus Bulls were offered selling to top $16,000 to average $8337.Great results Shane and Jodie.
