Glenburnie Livestock Report 22/07/20

A dramatic drop in numbers this week saw only 350 cattle come forward. This was 438 less than last week. Some good quality heavy steers came forward and these sold to fully firm rates. The better quality yearlings sold 2-6c per kg dearer, while the cows traded at near firm rates. Bulls were dearer.

YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Liam Durcan.

Quality was very mixed in one of the smallest yarding’s of young cattle seen. The usual field of buyers competed strongly to obtain market share. The increased competition helped drive prices 5-8c per kg up on last week. Trade and feedlot competition saw 400-480kg steers 360-388c per kg while the trade heifers made 350-386c per kg. Heavy heifers over 500kg 312-350c per kg.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Andrew Whan.

A full field of buyers competed strongly for the small but good quality yarding of cows. Prices were near firm across all classes with medium/heavy beef cows 265-297c per kg and light beef cows 210-265c per kg.

Quotations:  RK & SM Johnson’s Warrensville Blood Poll Her cows 285c 636kg $1814 and 288c 606kg $1746. Redgum’s SH cows 291c 665kg $1935 and Stillwater’s SH cows 291c 720kg $2095.

SHEEP & LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller & Liam Durcan.

547 sheep and lambs sold, 260 less than last week.  A very mixed and smaller yarding met the small buyer’s gallery. Quality lambs were absent, thus the cheaper trend. Most lambs yarded were showing signs of the season with 22-24kg lambs from $154 to $165 being $8 to $10 cheaper. Lighter lambs sold very strongly however with light trade buyers and restockers pushing every pen from $100 to $138. MWJ had a good quality run of XB sheep selling from $135 to $161 for rounded dry ewes. British bred rams lifted from $80 to $90 with a new buyer order.

Quotations:  AC & BL Beggs 35 lambs $154. Bassendean Farms 68 lambs from $105 to $126 and 64 heavy XB Ewes $135. ML & CE Clarke 45 well shorn trade lambs from $124 to $128 and 16 XBE $161. RL Hancock & Sons 6 rams $85.
