Glenburnie Livestock Report 25/9/19

Excellent weekend rain and the easier prices of last week may have contributed to the much smaller yarding this week of 641 cattle.  The reported 30-45mm of rain will help set up a much better finish to the season.  There were some mixed results with bulls and cows fully firm while the bullocks and heavy steers were 5-8 cents easier.  The very plain run of yearlings were firm to 5 cents per kg easier.  Many bulls are returning over $3000.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Liam Durcan

A large yarding of bulls sold to solid demand leaving prices unchanged from the previous week with heavy sound bulls making from 228-300c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c Mookabri Pastoral, Shorthorn bull 287c 1190kg $3415.30.  A/c T & K Paynter, Hereford bull 289c 1125kg $3251.25.  A/c LT Jones, Angus bull 284c 925kg $2627.00.

BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Scott Miller.

A smaller run of bullocks and steers with some very heavy weights being a feature.  A large percentage of the bullocks yarded were 700kg+ returning producers $2000 plus.  The market again eased with the best heavy steers 295-322c per kg while the bullocks made 290-312c per kg.  Manufacturing steers 248-296c per kg.  The Friesian steers 200-248c per kg.

Quotations:  The MWJ run was very heavy with many pens 700kg+.  Reg Edwards & Son Ang x Ox 305c 684kg $2086.  Prime Char bullocks 290c 771kg $2236 A/c JF Mulqueeny.  Gary & Lynn Little, Tarpeena, offered 2 pens of prime Ang Frs x bullocks 10 @ 296c 736kg $2180 and 10 @ 288c 781kg $2250 – an outstanding result.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Liam Durcan.

The young cattle were again very mixed, without much top end quality.  The heavy heifers made 250-288c per kg which was fully firm.  A very plain run of yearling steers saw the trade pay 265-295c per kg, while the best trade heifers made 267-288c per kg.  Feedlots and restockers were active where weight and quality suited.

Quotations: The MWJ run consisted of mainly yearling heifers.  Prime Poll Her heifers A/c MS Brill 275c 521kg $1434 and 279c 435kg $1213.  Three pens of SHN heifers A/c Patanga Past met strong restocker and feedlot competition, 28 avg 285c selling to $1172.

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Andrew Whan.

Cows remained firm on last week in a reduced yarding.  The yarding consisted of predominantly beef cows with all weights represented.  The better end of med/heavy beef cows 230-270c per kg.  Light beef cows realised 135-220c per kg.

192 sheep and lambs sold, 56 more than last week.  While it was only a small run of mixed lambs and sheep, there were numerous pens of rounded finished lambs from 20 to 22kg selling from $136 to $175 to two strong exporter orders.

Quotations: A/c ML & CE Clarke 90 lambs from $136 to $160.
