Glenburnie Livestock Report 27/3/19

The 7mm of rain over the weekend was welcomed with more predicted in coming days.  A full field of buyers operated in a mixed yarding with all cattle and lambs selling to dearer trends.  The sale produced strong bullock prices topping at 302c per kg.  The quality of the grass fed yearlings and vealers was average selling at 290c or 15 to 20 cents per kg dearer.  Prime cows in demand sold over $2 mark to top at 229c, the highest price for 2019.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan.   

65 bullocks yarded.  Only a small run of bullocks and steers saw export processors operating plus keener feedlot competition.  Rates were 10 to 15c dearer with better young steers selling to 302c per kg.

Quotations: A/c Kongorong Holdings prime Angus bullocks 302c $1771.01.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Liam Durcan.  

244 yearlings and vealers yarded.  Although the yarding was of average quality all classes of young cattle met much improved competition from trade and feedlot buyers eager to gain their share with prices 15 to 25 cents dearer.

Quotations:  A/c Kongorong Holdings grass fed Angus heifers 282c $1487.55.  A/c C Sims 21 Angus heifers 258c $1109.  A/c KA & KS Lock grass fed Angus heifers 265c $1110.35.  A/c J Carrison Hereford x heifers 234c $764.40

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Scott Miller.

189 cows yarded with good quality empty young cows selling to stronger demand at 25 to 30 cents dearer.  Light weight beef cows met both processor and restocker competition selling at 150c to 175c per kg.  Best beef cows sold to 229c per kg mainly 215c to 225c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c RSA Cameron 22 Angus cows sold to 212c to average $1022.68.  A/c Hillside Holdings 38 young cows sold to 208c to average $1061.78.  A/c KA & KS Lock Angus cows 223c $1315.70.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

1163 sheep and lambs sold, 130 more than last week.  A very solid sale with more buyers present and a lift in most sections.  While there weren’t a lot of export lambs yarded, those present were rewarded with 26 to 30kg lambs selling up to $178 and 24 to 26kg lambs from $140 to $164.  Trade lambs sold from $132 to $140 for 20 to 22kg and restockers were strong on 16 to 18kg shorn lambs from $124 to $145.  Mutton prices on rounded sheep jumped by $10 to $15.

Quotations:  A/c MS & SL Wilson 135 lambs from $121 to $162.  A/c CC Patzel 139 lambs from $128 to $140, also 19 ewes $129.
