Glenburnie Livestock Report 29/5/19

After the warm end to last week, vendors, buyers and agents met near arctic conditions Wednesday.  Heavy hail and rain made for one of the coldest May days in recent memory.  The yarding of 805 was again very mixed with the best quality being in the export classes of both bullocks and cows.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am.

Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices unchanged from the previous week with heavy sound bulls making from 192-228c per kg.

Quotations: A/c Boonaroo 1 Ang bull 215c 1025kg $2203 and another 1 made 225c 930kg $2092.

BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Scott Miller

A very small yarding of grown steers and bullocks, with more plainer types and Frs steers penned.  The few quality bullocks were very good for this time of year and sold at fully firm rates of 294-310c per kg.  Secondary types 248-285c per kg with the Frs steers making 185c per kg to a top of 213c per kg.

Quotations: A/c Reg Edwards & Sons Ang x ox 283c 662kg $1874.  Very good condition Frs steers A/c T Sneath 213c 578c $1232.  Framey Frs 182c 507kg $923.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Liam Durcan

A very plain “winter time” yarding of young cattle with only a few prime heavy heifers and yearling heifers suitable for trade buyers.  The majority of the yarding suited both feedlots and restockers and they were active.  The yearling steers suited feedlot orders and these made 240-303c per kg.  The heavy heifers 240-288c per kg while trade heifers made 235-258c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c Reg Edwards & Sons heavy Her heifers 260c 500kg $1300.  Peucker Farms Her heifers 250c 501kg $1252.  A/c Dorodong Ang steers 303c 326kg $990.

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Scott Miller.

A similar size run of cows to last week that contained some very good heavy beef cows.  The best of the beef cows were 5-10c per kg dearer this week.  The best medium/heavy cows realised 205-242c per kg while light beef cows met both processor and restocker competition at 160-195c per kg.

Quotations:  V & K Peucker offered an outstanding run of heavy cows, their 38 cows ave 230c and $1506.  The top 15 cows made 235c ave 707kg $1661.  The second 19 234c 633kg $1481.  KJ & MJ Mountford’s Her x cows 235c 757kg $1780 and 231c 655kg $1514.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

1286 sheep and lambs sold, 1058 less than last week.  A reduced yarding and inclement weather didn’t stop the extreme strong demand for all types of lamb and mutton.  Best export lambs 26 to 30kg sold from $240 to $276 while 24 to 26kg lambs were $220 to $239.  Trade weights 20 to 22kg lambs sold from $205 to $223.  18 to 20kg medium trades were pushed from $165 to $185 being $2 to $3 dearer.  16 to 18kg light rounded trades were dearer if they were later drops from $120 to $153.  Xb hoggets sold up to $126.

Quotations:  A/c Chris Skeer & Co lambs from $185 to $270.  A/c JL & NS Fartch 87 lambs from $223 to $240.  A/c PF & BA Burchard 73 lambs from $153 to $226.
