Glenburnie Livestock Report 29/7/20

Cattle prices have continued to sell to dearer trends despite Covid-19 and the restrictions. Cow prices surged 10-15c per kg with exporters chasing supply. Best heavy cows topped at 311c per kg. Bullocks sold to 380c per kg and best yearling steers 387c per kg to the trade and heifers to the trade 388c per kg. Feedlotters and restockers were also very keen as young Angus steers made 413c per kg.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am

Bulls sold to easier rates this week with prices slipping 5-8c per kilo with heavy sound bulls selling from 230-270c per kg.

Quotations:  G Allen Sim Bull 260c 810kg $2106. Peucker Farms Hereford Bull 270c 755kg $2038.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Scott Miller

91 yarded saw best Angus bullocks sell to 380c per kg but mainly 332-360c per kg. Manufacturing dairy steers also to dearer trends 255-275c per kg.

Quotations: KJ & MJ Mountford Penola, Angus bullocks 380c $2261. KJ & EA Clarke OB Flat, Hereford SH x bullocks 363c $2171.

YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Liam Durcan.  

214 yearling and vealers yarded. Very mixed quality came forward with trade, feedlotters and restockers bidding keenly in a small yarding. Best grassfed yearling steers sold to market top of 413c per kg mainly 360-390c per kg. Grassfed yearling heifers sold to 388c per kg mainly 320-360c per kg. No vealers to quote.

Quotations:  M Phillips Yahl, yearling heifer 322c $1787. Peucker Farms Mingbool, 13 Poll Hereford outstanding young heifers 388c $1465. JG & CK Clarke Kingston, 16 Angus steers 408c $1566 with sisters 376c $1447.

145 cows yarded. Cows prices lifted 10c per kg as processors were keen to secure supply. Best heavy cows 311c mainly 290-310c per kg. Medium cows 250-270c per kg and light chopper cows 200-235c per kg.

Quotations:  RJ, JM & CAJ Waters Kongorong, Angus Cow 300c $2280. Boonaroo Pty Ltd Casterton, a run of Angus Cows sold to 310c per kg to average $1754. RJ, JM & CAJ Waters MG cows 256c $1194.

85 sheep and lambs sold, 462 less than last week. In a very small yarding conducted at the Glenburnie Saleyards buyers weren’t deterred with 22-24kg lambs selling from $148 to $175. All the lighter lambs from 16-20kg sold from $100 to $118.
