Glenburnie Livestock Report 3/1/18

The first sale of 2018 opened with mixed trends.  1592 came forward with all classes and weights well represented.  A noticeable feature of the sale was the number of cattle showing dryness and starting to slip.  This would certainly affect their yields.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

6686 sheep sold, 963 more than last market on 18/12/17.   With the increased yarding and the added supermarket, along with strong restocker orders, the market was extremely strong from all sectors.  A good mix of all weights plus the first drafts of excellent shorn lambs.  Even the export lambs showing dry skins returned great results with 26 to 30kg from $189 to $210 and 24 to 26kg at $175 to $188, all being $6 to $8 dearer.  Entering trade and supermarket weights it bounced the market by $10 to $11 from $154 to $184 for 20 to 24kg.  This strong push saw lambs selling at $7.00/kg at times.  18 to 20kg trades sold from $138 to $168 being $7 dearer, from then on lighter weight lambs were pushed firstly from restockers who purchased lambs at the 16 to 18kg range from $124 to $129.  Trade purchases were from $96 to $123 while immature lambs at 12-14kg were at $51 to $85.  Special mention of xb hgts selling from $102 to $171.
