Glenburnie Livestock Report 3/4/19

FORTHCOMING MARKET DAYS FOR EASTER AND ANZAC DAY

Prime Cattle and Sheep Sale – Monday 15/4/19

NO MARKETS – Wednesday 17/4/19 and 24/4/19

Returning to normal Wednesday Markets 1/5/19

Cooler conditions for the first sale in April.  Numbers were up but quality was lacking in the yarding of 969.  Prices were varied, with some sales on paper appearing cheaper but this was due to a general lack of quality.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am

The 16 bulls penned were mainly heavy beef types, with the best making from 193c to 222c per kg.  An outstanding bull A/c WE & TA Wallace 222c 980kg $2175.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Peter Creek

Some very good heavy steers and bullocks came forward with buyers eager to secure their share.  It is a credit to the vendors that they can present such quality cattle after such a tight summer/autumn.  The bullocks were 4-8c dearer, with more breaking the 300c per kg barrier this week.  The better end heavy steers and bullocks 288c to 304c per kg.  Cross bred types 238c to 265c per kg and dairy types 188c to 210c per kg.

Quotations: Quality in the MWJ run created strong buyer support.  Prime Ang steers ex Kongorong 304c 598kg $1817.  Nacooma heavy ox 302c 752kg $2271.  KJ & MJ Mountford’s Her Sim x steers 292c 554kg $1619.  Heavy steers A/c S McEachern 265c 521kg $1381.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller

A very plain run of young cattle that at times more resembled a store sale.  The better quality was in the yearling heifers with both trade and heavy heifers 238c to 288c per kg.  Yearling steers sold to strong demand at 280c to 304c per kg.  Very few vealers were offered.  Restockers purchased runs of heifers 170c to 248c per kg.

Quotations:  Heavy Ang x heifers A/c SM & DC Miller 268c 572kg $1534. Fresh Frs heifers A/c Donovans 205c 540kg $1107.

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Peter Creek

The smaller run of cows lacked the quality of last week and sold at slightly easier rates.  The best beef cows 198c to 214c per kg or 5 to 6c easier.  The plainer type beef cows 168c to 188c per kg.  Frs cows 160c to 185c per kg.

Quotations:  Heavy Her cows 196c 660kg $1293.  Belgrave sold a run of empty Her cows 201c 570kg $1146 and 185c 532kg $985.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan

824 sheep and lambs sold, 339 less than last week.  A reduced yarding of mainly mixed shorn lambs and a small number of sheep.  The smaller buyers gallery rewarded export lambs at the heavy end.  Trade lambs struggled to excite trade and wholesale purchasers, while one strong restocker pushed the light forward store lambs from $98 to $142.  Best export lambs 24 to 26kg sold from $167 to $197, being $4 to $6 dearer.  The small amount of trade lambs from 22 to 24kg were $145 to $160, while wholesalers and restockers selected trade types $123 to $135.
