Glenburnie Market Report 08/05/2019

1124 cattle yarded as late Autumn rain was welcomed on Wednesday morning. Cattle quality and finish is playing a big role in determining prices as plain trade and export cattle are scarce. Bullocks remain fully firm on last week with inferior bred yearlings easing 5 to 8c per kg. Well-bred beef lines attracted strong feedlot competition with more empty prime cows yarded. Heavy weight beef cows selling 5c per kg dearer to top 230c per kg.


BULLS:  Sold at 9am. 

Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices unchanged with bulls making 180 to 225c per kg.

296 yarded, some quality drafts came forward in the larger bullock yarding and sold over the 300c per kg mark. All classes were well presented and sold to the usual field of buyers. Best young bullocks sold to 316c per kg, most heavy bullocks 285 to 300c per kg. Dairy steers 150 to 208c per kg, Friesian steers 190 to 210c per kg.

469 yearling and vealers yarded. Most of the yard lacked quality as feedlots supplied base for the market. Inferior bred cattle eased 10c per kg with best of grassfed yearling cattle selling 5 to 10c per kg dearer.

336 yarded with more heavy weight empty cows showing good condition selling 5 to 10c per kg dearer to sell to a market top of 230c per kg. Light plainer cows no change in price 150 to 200c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

1880 sheep and lambs sold, 950 more than last market.  With interstate markets reporting dearer trends on quality shorn lambs, a combination of extra buyers, demand and quality lambs penned saw values soar with 26 to 32kg lambs from $204 to $245, being $10 to $20 dearer. 24 to 26kg lambs sold from $188 to $199 being $4 to $6 dearer. 20 to 24kg trade lambs were once again in short supply, but those smaller numbers yarded sold from $150 to $178. Again 18 to 20kg rounded lambs sold to processors from $128 to $144. Restockers demand was subdued with 12 to 16kg lambs from $30 to $115. Mutton prices were very strong with XB Ewes 18kg dressed with 2” skin from $135 to $145. 


Quotations:  A/c M & B Hamill 60 shorn lambs estimated 32kg at $245 and 14 lambs at $200. A/c Reg Edwards & Son 46 lambs at $205 and A/c PC & CA Feast, 10 XB Ewes $142.
