Glenburnie Market Report 10/10/2018

A dearer market this week for most classes in a yarding of 902 cattle. A full field of buyers showed more urgency on the better quality cattle penned with feedlotters and restockers also present. This price gap continues to grow between the well finished cattle and the plainer, secondary types.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan.     

A small yarding of bulls sold to limited competition selling from 170 to 190c per kg.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS: Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan.  

Prices increased across all classes, in a very mixed yarding. Tope end quality was very good, but more plainer types and Friesian steers came forward. Heavy steers 275 to 305c per kg, Jap Ox 265 to 300c per kg, manufacturing types 200 to 248c per kg, best Friesian’s 180 to 210c per kg, light conditioned Friesians 125 to 165c per kg.

Quotations:  The MWJ run featured many quality drafts. A/c GW Little Ang X Bullocks 300c 666kg $1999.00 and heavy Ang Char X Bullocks 280c 761kg $2132.00. Prime Ang A/c Reg Edwards & Son 293c 693kg $2030.00. A/c JK & MY Cleaver Poll Hereford Bullocks 294c 694kg $2030.00. A run of Shorthorn Bullocks A/c J Croser & Sons 10 at 284c 667kg $1894.00 and 11 at 278c 758kg $2109.00. A pen of fresh Friesian Steers 205c 540kg $1108.00.

YOUNG CATTLE:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller.     

The yarding of 406 saw more yearling steers and heifers penned. The heavy heifers over 500kg met strong demand at 238 to 278c per kg while trade steers were dearer 278 to 300c per kg. The yearling heifers met both trade and feedlot enquiry 235 to 280c per kg. Prices were generally 5 to 10c per kg dearer.

Quotations:  A good run of yearling heifers suited all buyer requirements. A/c M Aarts Ang Heifers 275c 501kg $1380.00. A/c D Gellion Ang Heifers 280c 460kg $1289.00. A/c RJ Crouch Her Heifers 262c 422kg $1106.00.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Andrew Whan.             

A very small run of cows this week, but all weights and grades were represented. The medium/heavy weight cows sold at rates equal to last week while the light cows may have been 5 to 10c per kg easier. The best cows made 185 to 214c per kg while light cows to both exporters and restockers 100 to 170c per kg.

Quotations: A/c J Croser and Sons offered some good quality Shorthorn Cows with clean types 214c 594kg $1271.00 and older cows 204c 647kg $1320.00. A/c M Aarts Ang X Cows 192c 626kg $1202.00. A/c RC & PJ Cowland Ang Cows 192c 700kg $1344.00.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

330 sheep and lambs sold, 623 less than last week.  A very small yarding of mixed sheep and lambs. The inclement weather affected many sucker lambs from not coming forward. Of those that came, they were very fresh but only 18 to 20kg weights, which sold from $145 to $180. The best old lambs of which there were only few sold from $110 to an amazing $165 for 30kg plus lambs. All markets are pointing up for sucker lambs with a bit of sun. The numbers will come, possibly from the Mt Gambier Show week.

Quotations: A/c DW & J Saffin 10 sucker lambs est. 20kg $180.

Total Clearance – 148 offered & sold, averaging $1235.00. 125 Poll Dorset Rams topped at $2100, averaging $1226.40. 23 White Suffolk rams topped at $1800 and averaged $1286.00 All rams were presented in excellent working condition with outstanding performance figures.
