Glenburnie Market Report 11/04/18

As the dry season continues more plainer cattle are being yarded. Most of the market lost the high prices of last week. This week saw Bullocks top 282c per kg, yearling and vealers relied on feedlots and restockers competition. Steers 275c to 295c per kg, Heifers 236-280c per kg and Cows eased 6-8c per kg making 190c to 210c per kg.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan. 

A small yarding of bulls sold from 200c per kg to 215c per kg.

289 Bullocks yarded, prices remained solid with best prime Angus Bullocks making 282c per kg, mainly 255c to 270c per kg. Plainer types eased 5c to 6c per kg making 230c to 242c per kg.

405 yearling and vealers yarded. The bulk of the yarding was plain and unfinished with feedlotters and restockers the most active however good quality yearling were purchased by the trade. Grass fed yearling steers 242c to 282c per kg, grass fed yearling heifers 255c to 285c per kg. Vealers have lost their bloom with the bulk going to the feedlots.

180 cows yarded with prices easing. Best Beef Cows 198c to 212c per kg, light chopper cows 140c to 172c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Peter Creek.

Lamb numbers halved from the previous week with only 1230 lambs coming forward while sheep numbers increased to 336. A plain yarding of lambs made up mostly of light trade and store lambs with very limited heavy trade and export lambs available, these sold to a smaller field of trade and processor buyers while there was strong demand from restockers. The limited number of export and heavy trade lambs sold from $125 to $155 easing $5 to $6. Light trade lambs sold from $116 to $127 with prices holding firm with keen restocker interest pushing processors. Light Lambs sold from $61 to $114 slipping $4 to $6.An increase in sheep numbers lead to stronger demanded from processors with heavy sheep selling from $95 to $122 lifting $5 to $6. Light sheep sold from $80 to $86 . Hoggets sold from $78 to $105.
