Glenburnie Market Report 12/09/2018

A quality yarding and full field of trade and export buyers helped values rise across all classes. The increased yarding of 873 contained many quality drafts of bullocks while the trade cattle quality was much better and sold to much stronger demand. Export buyers in both the bullocks and cow runs chased pens with weight and good fat cover.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan.

Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices on par with the previous week, with heavy sound bulls making from 205 to 227c per kg.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS: Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan.

196 Steers and Bullocks penned with all weights and classes offered. Quality was very good with more better finished types each week due to the very good season so far. All major exporters were keen to compete for their share at dearer rates of 5 to 12c per kg on the best bullocks. Best heavy steers and bullocks made from 300 to 318c per kg. Cross Bred types 228 to 260c per kg and Friesians 220 to 242c per kg.

A larger gallery of Victorian trade buyers were very active where quality suited. The trade heifers received the biggest price lift (although quality was better) at rates of 265 to 300c per kg or 5 to 15c per kg better. Heavy heifers over 500kg were also dearer 260 to 289c per kg up 5 to 8c per kg. A few  more trade light beef splitter calves are still coming forward and selling from $100 to $350.

A larger run of cows this week of very mixed quality. Restockers were active on light beef cows at 140 to 192c per kg while exporters sourced med/heavy beef cows at 218 to 247c per kg or 6 to 10c per kg dearer than last week.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

1081 sheep and lambs sold, 577 more than last week. The increased yarding provided buyers with more larger runs of old shorn lambs plus a small sample of suckers. Interstate markets were generally cheaper on new seasons suckers, but this wasn’t the case in Mt Gambier with the best sucker lambs from $180 to $203 for 18 to 22kg weights. Older shorn lambs also held firm from $150 to $175 for 18 to 22kg and odd pens of heavy lambs from $200 to $230.
