Glenburnie Market Report 13/5/20

A very strong market again this week at Glenburnie, especially with the overall quality. The bullocks and yearlings not as good this week. The good run of cows sold at rates fully firm to dearer. The yarding of 6945 sold to the usual winter time field of buyers.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan

A small yarding of bulls sold to solid demand leaving prices unchanged from the previous week with heavy sound bulls making from 240 to 280c per kg.


BULLOCKS & STEERS:      Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Scott Miller.

A smaller run of bullocks and steers, that lacked the overall quality of last week, with more cattle lacking finish. The best heavy steers and bullocks 332-346c per kg with plainer types and manufacturing steers 280-328c per kg.


Quotations: KJ & EA Clarke’s Her Shn X Steers topped the market at 346c 628kg $2175 and the Ang Frs x Ox 720kg $2088.


YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Liam Durcan.

A true winter yarding with the top end quality very good and many cattle suiting feeder or restocker orders. Cattle suiting domestic trade orders sold to strong competition with heavy heifers over 500kg 300-330c per kg while prime trade type heifers realised 340-390c per kg. Yearling steers were purchased for feedlot orders. Isolated sales of milk vealers sold up to 420c per kg.


Quotations:  KJ & MJ Mountford’s prime Ang and Sim x yearling heifers sold to strong competition. The Sim x heifers 370c 380kg $1406 and the Ang x heifers 390c 383kg $1497. A/c Barr & James Ang x steers 341c 370kg $1264. A single Ang x heifer a/c ML Day 420c 380kg $1596.


COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Andrew Whan.

A very strong cow sale with prices firm to higher than last week. A good run of cows with all weights and grades represented. The best medium/heavy beef cows sold 285-310c per kg with light beef cows attracting both processor and restocker competition 220-270c per kg.


Quotations:  BR Creek’s Her Frs x cows 266c 628kg $1672. A run of Shorthorn cows A/c Harrold Past Co 267-270c per kg topping at $1612. Prime Ang cows A/c RCS & NA Smith 302c 641kg $1935. Clean cows A/c Majardah Rural 310c 632kg $1960.


SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

859 sheep and lambs sold, 217 less than last week.  In a smaller yarding the usual array of buyers were in attendance with the absence of one exporter. A limited number of export lambs from 24-26kg came to hand, but those who presented these sold from $205 to $230. Heavy trade lambs 22-24kg sold well once again from $169 to $196 and trade lambs 20-22kg at $146 to $160 were well supported by all trade buyers. Restockers only operated at the heavy end with 18-20kg turn out lambs from $130 to $158. 12-16kg lighter lambs were from $90 to $116.


Quotations:  A/c RJ & VJ Badman 20 lambs $224. A/c MJ Collins 48 lambs from $196 to $205.


MT GAMBIER STORE SALE 8/5/20:  

A much larger than advertised yearling of 2250 cattle came forward. Quality was very good, with the quality and large numbers of Angus heifers a feature. Competition was very strong, opening up on the heavy Angus steers and continuing on throughout the sale, to sell all cattle dearer than last month. Heavy steers over  360kg met strong domestic feedlot competition at 380c per kg to over 400c per kg or $1460 to $1700 with steers 300-360kg $1160 to $1400. Spring drop steers met feverish competition $850 to $1250. An outstanding run of Angus heifers sold at 360-390c per kg $1150 to $1350 with lighter heifers topping over 400c per kg $800 to $1100.


Quotations:  Bask Family Trust 12 month old Angus steers $1650. A/c T Clarke Angus steers $1600. A/c Hillside Angus steers $1340. A/c Killarnie Ang x heifers $1260. A/c Roxley Park Ang x heifers $1060. A/c Mark Phillips 2y.o. Ang Frs x heifers with Limo C.A.F $2350.
