Glenburnie Market Report 21/02/18

A very different week from last market as quality and numbers fell to under 1000 cattle. 519 less than last week. The market struggled to reach last weeks price rates, but the cattle where very mixed, mainly lacking yield and finish. Exporters, trade, feedlots and restockers were all active.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan

Bulls sold to easier trends with prices slipping 3-5c per kg with heavy sound bulls making 200-205c per kg.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Scott Miller.

Quality fell away dramatically this week with more plainer, secondary types coming forward. More cattle pre-showing the effects of the dry conditions. Some cattle were near firm, but generally all grades were up to 5c easier. 0-2 tooth steers 250-268c per kg, heavy bullocks 238-260c per kg, manufacturing and secondary types 200-238c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c Cyclone Trust Ang Ox 250c $736kg $1841.00. A/c Reg Edwards & Son Her Ox 242c 667kg $1615.00. A/c KJ & MJ Mountford sold Ang and Her X Steers 235-240c per kg. A/c BLW Steer & Son Poll Her Steers 234-235c per kg returning up to $1495.00.

YOUNG CATTLE:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Liam Durcan.

A very mixed run of young cattle containing more store type classes and clean up mobs. Vealers did not meet last weeks quality or prices. The better vealers sold from 270-300c per kg with restockers active on secondary vealers. Yearling steers to the trade at 248-265c per kg. Yearling heifers sold at firm rates of 238-260c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c JG & CK Clarke Murray Grey Steers 265c 422kg $1119.00 and 254c 431kg $1096.00 and Heifers 256c 376kg $964.00.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Scott Miller.

A much smaller run of cows this week, that lacked the quality of recent weeks. Cows like the other categories eased 4-6c per kg. med/Heavy cows 196-208c per kg, light cows 150-185c per kg.

Quotations:      A/c Cyclone Trust topped the cow run with Ang Cows 208c 707kg $1471.00.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

1,804 sheep sold, 676 less than last week. Another mixed offering with a small field of buyers. Premium export lambs sold to slightly dearer rates from $140 to $172, the best pen at $184 for 26-30kg lambs. The trade lambs were the biggest percentage yarded with 20-24kg lambs $124 to $140 being firm to $3 dearer. Restockers were frustrated with limited suitable store lambs on offer paying $50 to $121.

Quotations:  A/c Oliver Nominees 490 trade lambs from $114 to $137.


An outstanding run of Angus bulls was presented by Shane and Jodie Foster last Friday at their annual on property bull sale. Return buyers and many new clients appreciate the quality of the paddock reared bulls ready to work. 94 bulls were sold at an average of $7,750 topping at $18,000. Many bull still sold from $4,500 - $6,000 giving everybody the ability to source quality Angus genetics.
