Glenburnie Market Report 21/03/18

With the dry season, producers are pushing cattle onto the market unfinished.  Plain cattle sold at softer rates  with feedlotters picking up most of the young cattle. Bullock prices were solid with very best topping 269c per kg but mainly 235c to 255c per kg. Yearling cattle eased as the quality had slipped with steers 275c to 289c per kg and heifers 210c to 255c per kg. Few vealers topping to 340c per kg. Cows remained firm as beef cows sold from 200c to 216c per kg, dairy x cows 190c to 203c per kg with dairy topping 120c to 170c per kg.


BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan. 

Bulls sold to the regular field of buyers with prices remaining unchanged from the previous week. Heavy sound Bulls made from 200c to 227c per kg.  


Quotations:  A/c LT & DJ Cooper, Kingston 1 Char Bull 226c 1005kg $2271.30, 2 Char Bulls 227c 722.5kg $1640.08 and 3 Char Bulls 215c 648.3kg $1393.92.


HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Liam Durcan.  

124 bullocks yarded with quality on the slide. The best of the bullocks sold to dearer topping at 269c per kg.

YOUNG CATTLE:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller.  

359 yearlings and vealers yarded with overall quality being very plain. Feedlotters purchased the bulk of the mixed quality yarding. Some grassfed yearling Heifers were purchased by the trade all for 260c per kg.


Quotations:  A/c Jakero grass-fed Angus Heifer 255c $1287.75. A/c G. Square Trust Sim x Steer vealers 301c $1010.00. A/c TGH Bankes Ang x Steers 289c $859.78 with Heifers 248c $799.80. 


COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Andrew Whan.  

156 cows yarded. Prices remained solid as less cows yarded, along with rest of the sale more plainer cows came to head. Best of the Beef Cows 198c to 208c per kg, light weight Beef Cows 160c to 188c per kg, Dairy x Cows 190c to 203c per kg, Friesian Cows 120c to 170c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

2,045 sheep sold, 1,333 more than last week. The increased yarding which predominantly were shorn light to medium trade lambs and only a small percentage of export lambs. This increased number enabled all trade and wholesaler purchasers to bid generously. Export lambs from 24 to 26kg sold from $155 to $165 selling at firm rates. Heavy trades 22 to 24kg which presented some attractive pens selling from $135 to $152 being $2 to $4 dearer. 18 to 20kg rounded trades from $124 to $134 being $1 to $2 dearer. Wholesalers bided on stereo types from 12 to 16kg with three purchasers hard to knock off from $45 to $120. 


Quotations:  A/c M & B Hamill 13 export lambs $165 and 6 XB Hoggets $130.
