Glenburnie Market Report 21/08/2019

A strong market right across all classes this week for the similar sized yarding of 676. The top end quality is improving week on week with more finished cattle coming through this week. The usually field of buyers operated but with increased depth of their orders. This with the better quality helped prices be fully firm to dearer.


BULLS:  Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Liam Durcan

Bulls sold to firm demand with lean light weight bulls selling from 200-245c per kg with heavy better covered bulls making from to 250-282c per kg.


HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Scott Miller.

Some very good quality heavy steers and bullocks came forward. Buyers were keen to secure their share, helping prices be 5-12c per kg dearer. Best quality heavy steers  and bullocks made 318-350c per kg. A very good run of Friesian steers from 500kg to over 700kg were offered  and these realised 260-286c per kg.


Quotations:  The MWJ run contained some very good quality bullocks and Friesian steers that had a spring finish. A/c MJ Cleavers 14 Prime Ang Steers 344c 593kg $2040. Regular vendor A/c KJ & MJ Mountford Sim X Ob 344c 645kg $2218. A/c MJ Cleavers Poll Hereford Ox 337c 664kg $2238. A very good run of dairy steers saw RL Hancock & Sons Aussie Red Steers 286c 547kg $1566. MJ Cleaver’s Friesian steers 275c 604kg $1661. A/c R & TR Paltridge Friesian steers 272c 530kg $1441.


YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Liam Durcan.   

The young cattle sold to strong competition with greater depth in the buying orders. Trade buyers purchased steers from 295-338c per kg while heifers made 305-326c per kg. The heavy heifers over 500kg made 275-328c per kg. The heavy heifers over 500kg made 275-328c per kg. Restockers and feeders operated where quality suited.


Quotations:  A run of 50 Shorthorn heifers A/c PR Caskey was offered over 4 pens. 11 heavy heifers 560kg made $1542 with 23 others 291c $1392. Prime Boonaroo Blood Angus Heifers A/c M & B Hamill 314c 426kg $1338. A/c RL Hancock & Sons Shorthorn X Steers 326c 432kg $1409.


COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Peter Creek.   

A very small run of cows this week. The quality was very mixed but demand for the heavy beef cows was stronger. The best beef cows 255-284c per kg or 5-10c dearer. Light cows made 200-248c per kg.


SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

357 sheep and lambs sold, 724 less than last week.  A very small yarding of mixed lambs and sheep while the limited numbers deterred most buyers from operating. The major exporter, wholesalers and trade competition was solid. The best export lambs at 22 to 24kg sold from $166 to $180 resulting in lambs making $8.20 to $8.40 per kg. Rounded trade lambs 20 to 22kg sold from $134 to $154. Three trade purchasers sorted lambs in 16 to 20kg weight range from $105 to $130.
