Glenburnie Market Report 22/05/2019

Price trends were mostly softer as beef market continued to struggle as more plainer secondary grades of young steers and heifers were yarded. Bullocks eased 5-10c per kg. Cow market was firm to dearer across the good heavy beef cows. Lighter plain cows lacked fat cover and finish being fully firm. Bullocks topped 305c per kg, mainly 250-275c per kg. Grassfed yearling steers and heifers topped 316c per kg to fed lotters, mainly 210-265c per kg. Cows topped 235c per kg, mainly 205-225c per kg. Light cows 140-175c per kg.


BULLS:  Sold at 9am. 

Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices unchanged from the previous week with heavy sound bulls making from 200-222c per kg and light weight bulls from 160-180c per kg.

115 Bullocks yarded, the best of the well finished bullocks eased 10c per kg topping at 305c per kg however mainly most sold 250-275c per kg. Dairy steers sold firm 180-205c per kg.


Quotations: A/c DM & GW Hancock Hereford X bullocks 282c $1639.00. A/c GM & MM Howard Hereford bullocks 285c $1767.00.

413 yearling and vealers yarded, all selling to softer price trends as more secondary grades of young cattle were discounted. On a brighter note grassfed yearling steers in prime condition sold to 292c per kg and the heifers sold o 288c per kg.


Quotations:  A/c Edwards family grassfed Angus steers 292c $1138.00. A/c MJ & AS Baxter, grassfed Limousin heifers 288c $1130.00. A/c KS Post grassfed Limousin heifers 244c $939.00.


COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Scott Miller.  

262 Cows yarded in a strong sale with prices remaining fully firm on all classes with cows topping at 235c per kg, mainly 210-225c per kg. Dairy cows 140-198c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

2344 sheep and lambs sold, 937 more than last week. With the increased yarding came a quality run of export and trade lambs. Exceptional prices were reached with heavy lambs making up to $295 and mutton $200. Breaking it down heavy export lambs from 28 to 32kg sold from $240 to $295 with exporters “not giving up” on securing the best lambs. Heavy trades 24 to 26kg sold to extreme high’s from $200 to $234. All heavy lambs being $10 to $20 dearer. Trade lambs from 20 to 24kg sold from $170 to $205. While small in numbers rounded 18 to 20kg lambs sold from $145 to $165. Light restocker lambs with or without skin were sought after with strong competition from $98 to $130. Mutton prices soared with heavy XB Ewes & Wethers from 350 to 40kg dressed from $166 to $200.


Quotations:  A/c K & L Sanders 10 lambs at $234. A/c Karinya lambs at $218, XB Hoggets at $166 and XB Ewes at $180. A/c Bassendean 265 shorn Aug/Sep drop lambs from $115 to $130.
