Glenburnie Market Report 22/08/2018

A good sunny day was welcomed by all this week which saw a similar size yarding to last week. Quality for bullocks improved which met with price improvement. Competition for export grades lifted 7 to 8 cents per kg with best ox selling to 305c per kg. Cows saw a good solid sale with the best cows selling to 240c per kg.Yearling and vealer price eased mainly due to poor quality.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan.     

25 bulls yarded with best heavy bulls making 225 to 235c per kg. Medium bulls 215 to 220c per kg and light conditioned bulls 150 to 190c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c Trott-Warner Angus Bulls  232c $2598.40. A/c PS & KE Vandepeer 8 outstanding Poll Hereford Bulls sold to market top 235c to average $2436.00. A/c DJ & TA Fiebig Friesian Bull 218c $2180.00.

159 Bullocks yarded, very good quality sold dearer with all the major exporters actively seeking their share. The strong competition lifted prices 7 to 8c per kg to see heavy bullocks back over the 300c per kg mark. A few pens of plain manufacturing type steers came forward 130 to 190c per kg.

YOUNG CATTLE:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Andrew Whan.   

179 yearling and vealers yarded in a very mixed yarding with manufacturing cattle lacking in bred and quality. Prices eased but not all trade buyers purchased due to shortage of quality. Best grassfed yearling steers sold to 285c per kg with grassfed yearling heifers 240 to 280c per kg. Vealers 276 to 285c per kg, inferior bred 200 to 246c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c KJ & MJ Mountford, grassfed Angus Heifers 284c $1219.17 and grassfed Hereford Heifers same account 280c $1200.50.   A/c J Oberer grassfed Angus Steers 283c $928.75.

109 cows yarded with all exporters operating. Less heavy weigh cows came to hand this week as prices eased 5c per kg. Best heavy cows 240c per kg with more medium framed cows selling 218 to 228c per kg. Light chopper cows 160 to 200c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

482 sheep and lambs sold, 938 more than last week. In a very mixed yarding of the small run of lambs and sheep, vendors would have been pleased with strong demand especially on killable lambs. Best export lambs from 26 to 30kg were $210 to $250 being $4 to $8 dearer. Trade lambs from 20 to 24kg also sold strongly from $175 to $200 being $6 to $8 dearer. Light trades were firm from $130 to $140 at 18 to 20kg. Lighter lambs from 16 to 18kg at $95 to $110, XB Hoggets were from $130 to $140 while mutton prices fell $5 to $10 with the best XB Ewes up to $100.
