Glenburnie Market Report 23/1/2019

This week saw more quality prime bullocks yarded with prices lifting 5 to 8 cents per kg to sell at a market top of 279c.  Young cattle were more mixed in quality which sold to subdued demand leading to cheaper prices throughout the sale.  The best of the steer vealers sold to 285c, grass fed yearling heifers 255c.  The cow market remained solid with best beef cows 212c.

BULLS:   Bulls sold at 9am.

Bulls sold to firm demand leaving prices unchanged from a week ago with heavy sound bulls making from 180 to 226 cents per kg.

BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan. 

486 bullocks yarded with good quality.  Prices lifted 5 to 8 cents per kg, again prime cattle are weighing in the producers favour.  Best Angus bullocks sold to 279c per kg.

Quotations: A/c KJ & MJ Mountford, Penola, 10 Angus x bullocks 268c $1656.24.  A/c IV & A Millard 15 Poll Her bullocks 273c $2073.89.  A/c David Potter Friesian steers 178c $1027.31

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller.

846 yearlings and vealers yarded. Although the yarding was mixed, some good vealers came forward still showing weight and freshness.  Generally the market demand was subdued with prices easing 10 to 12 cents per kg on good heifer vealers.

Quotations: A/c Roxley Park 16 prime Angus heifers made 252c $1192.80.  A/c GJ & KH Nethercott Hereford heifers 240c $1296.00.  A/c Luzinat & Zalitis grass fed Angus x heifers 244c $1073.60.  A/c Douglas & Lockett, Mil Lel, prime Simmental steer vealers 280c $1204.00.  A/c MJ & AS Baxter 5 Limousin steer vealers 265c $1055.86.  A/c MD & GJ Hawker CH steer vealers 260c $1046.50 with the sisters 240c $880.00

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Andrew Whan.

198 cows yarded.  Generally, cow prices were equal on the previous week with most beef cows carrying good weight.  Most beef cows 150 to 212c per kg.  Dairy cows 150 to 170c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c Roxley Park Angus cows 200c $1026. A/c Owen Barr dairy x cows 168c $859.60.  A/c MD & GJ Hawker Angus cows 182c $1110.20.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

1658 sheep sold, 1557 less than last week. The reduced yarding saw a large mix of shorn prime lambs, dry woolly and shorn store lambs and numerous pens of xb ewes.  The best export shorn lambs 24 to 26kg sold at fully firm rates from $165 to $180.  Heavy trade lambs were hard to find but those present sold from $155 to $162 at 22 to 24kg.  Medium trades 20 to 22kg were $135 to $148 and 18 to 20kg lambs were $118 to $130.  Restockers purchased lambs from $94 to $125.  Xb ewes, rounded, sold from $78 to $95.  Lighter ewes were $40 to $65.

Quotations:  A/c LJ & GE Little 50 shorn trade lambs $129.50.  A/c Trott & Warner 27 1st BL Mo lambs $129.  A/c S & S Oliver 300 shn store lambs from $94 to $106.
