Glenburnie Market Report 27/2/19

Mixed price trends this week for the slightly larger yarding of 1203 cattle.  Quality was also mixed.  We saw a better run of bullocks and steers. There were very few vealers penned, while more heavy cows came forward.  The major feedlots were very active throughout the sale trying to secure their share of the suitable cattle.

BULLS:  Sold at 9am.

Bulls sold to easier rates this week selling 5-8c per kg cheaper. With heavy sound bulls making from 200-222c per kg.

BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan.

Quality and demand increased for a better run of bullocks and steers this week.  The bullocks were at least fully firm to 6 cents dearer.  Better quality made 262-282c per kg with secondary types 230-258c per kg.  Very few Frs steers were penned with most 178-194c per kg.

Quotations: A/c WJ Kelso heavy Ang steers 275c 593kg $1632.  A/c DF, NJ & CD Stuchberry Ang Char x ox 276c 680kg $1878.  Heavy Her ox A/c Reg Edwards & Son 265c 704kg $1865.  Fresh Ang x steers A/c Vickery Bros 265-270c per kg to $1453.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller.

The young cattle sale was dominated by feedlotters trying to secure their share of suitable cattle.  The grain finishers forced the price of suitable steers up 6-15c per kg on last weeks rates.  Feedlots were also active on heifers.  Very few vealers came forward.  Trade steers 238-295c per kg.  Trade heifers 232-260c per kg.  Heavy heifers 200-262c per kg.  The best steer vealers made 278-300c per kg and vealer heifers 258-285c per kg.

Quotations:  Prime Ang steers A/c K & K Lock 269c 511kg $1375, and their sisters 252-256c per kg returning up to $1121.  Well finished Her x heifers A/c RD Bell 256c 532kg $1361.  A great return for heavy heifers.  The MWJ run included a large run of Ang splitter calves 3-5 months.  These generated strong interest with the better steers $520-$605 while the sisters $380-$480.

COWS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Scott Miller.

An increased yarding of cows, which comprised mainly of Hereford cows with weight in the top end.  The cows traded at rates similar to last week with the better cows 188-205c per kg.  Medium beef cows 176-198c per kg and lighter types 138-168c per kg.

Quotations:  Heavy Her cows A/c KJ Upton “Glencairn” 192c 710kg $1363 and 187c 575kg $1075.  Ang x cows A/c Kleenview 192c 592kg $1137 and Poll Her cows A/c Kyndalyn Trust 192c 510kg $979.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

679 sheep and lambs sold, 1121 less than last week.  With such a small yarding it was predictably mixed with buyers finding it difficult to source enough numbers.  However one exporter was very strong on any suitable killable lambs.  This order proved valuable with fully firm rates paid on the best lambs, after a week of cheap interstate sales.  Lambs 24 to 26kg from $160 to $185.  Trade lambs 20 to 24kg from $135 to $158.  Light and inferior types 12 to 16kg from $58 to $100.

Unjoined Frn Heifers 200kg+ $1200 to $1250 +GST. Subject to China Protocol (limited space available)
