Glenburnie Market Report 4/4/18

The weeks break due to Easter saw a positive effect on the cattle market. Numbers increased by 265 for a yarding of 935. Prices increased across all categories, with export, trade, feedlotter and restockers all keener than prior to the long weekend. Bidding at rates 8-15c per kg dearer than the last sale.


BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan. 

Bulls sold from 200c per kg to 232c per kg.


HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Liam Durcan.  

A much smaller run, with the quality lacking of the previous sales. Although quality declined, buyers were much more active in trying to secure their share, pushing steer rates up 10-16c per kg on the previous market. Best heavy young steers 0-2 tooth 268-286c per kg, Jap Ox 258-280c per kg, Manufacturing types 222-246c per kg. A few light Frs Steers 450-550kg were penned 148-175c per kg.  


Quotations:  A/c Kent Properties Lake Bonney offered a run of Speckle Park Steers that attracted great interest, 9 at 280c 550kg $1541.00, 10x 0-2 tooth 283c 643kg $1819.00 and 5x 4tooth 279c 632kg $1763.00. A/c JW Barnes Her Steers 279c 585kg $1632.00.


YOUNG CATTLE:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller.  

From the outset young cattle were dearer this week. Quality may have improved this week, but prices improved across the board for all but the lighter secondary types. Heavy heifers over 500kg improved 12-16c per kg or 248-280c per kg. Best trade Heifers 260-285c per kg up by 15c per kg. Trade Steers were very mixed but sold at dearer rates to both trade and feedlot orders. A better run of vealers met much stronger demand with Steers selling 285-322c per kg and Heifers 272-320c per kg.

216 cows sold to much stronger competition to be 2-6c dearer. All classes and weights were represented, light types 145-185c per kg with med/heavy cows 198-214c per kg with clean types 204-220c per kg.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

2,720 sheep sold 675 more than last week. A quality run of export and medium trade lambs were penned with the usual array of export trade and strong restocking orders. The two export improved rates by $4 to $7 with 26kg to 30kg lambs at $175 to $185 and 24kg to 26kg lambs $156 to $162. 20 to 24kg supermarket lambs were from $123 to $145 with a strong restocking order pushing wholesalers. Killable lighter lambs from 18 to 20kg were $128 to $130. Opportunists purchased smaller lambs from $50 to $120.
