Glenburnie Market Report 7/3/18

Less cattle yarded at Mt Gambier this week and quality was fair as prime cattle are scarce.  The season continues to dictate outcomes.  The best of the prime cattle remain firm.  Bullocks 226 to 262c.  Grass fed yearling steers 250 to 288c, grass fed yearling heifers 230 to 265c.  Only a few milk vealers yarded and sold to 300c per kg.  Cow prices improved a few cents with best heavy weight cows selling to 213c.  Mainly 195 to 208c.  Lightweight cows 150 to175c.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

1247 sheep sold, 1140 less than last week.  In a small yarding of mixed shorn lambs and mutton, the small gallery of buyers found it hard to source consistent quality.  With the majority of the yarding lacking cover, trade to export lambs were scarce.  Best heavy lambs 24 to 26kg sold from $148 and 26kg and over topped at $160.  All trade lambs 20 to 24kg were $128 to $140, being from $3 to $7 cheaper.  One wholesaler was very strong limiting restockers to purchase with 12 to 18kg lambs at $68 to $126.  Overall $1-$2 cheaper.

Quotations:  A/c SJ & GM McEachern 20 ideal trade lambs est 18-20kg at $128.
