Glenburnie Market Report 9/1/2019

2303 cattle yarded with the usual buying group present and operating in a solid market for the first full working week of 2019.  Quality for bullocks and vealers remained good as prices for bullocks remained fully firm at 270 to 287c per kg.  Manufacturing dairy steers met the strongest improvement of 15 to 20 cents dearer.  The best vealers sold to 310c per kg, mainly 275 to 290c per kg.  More cows were yarded and met with strong processor demand to sell 8 to 10c per kg dearer than pre-Christmas sales.  Miller Whan & John recommend selling empty and non-producing cows at current prices

Bulls sold to stronger demand selling from 180 to 222c per kg.

830 bullocks yarded with very good quality.  Many good runs of prime Angus bullocks and more dairy x steers came forward to sell 15 cents per kg dearer.  Angus bullocks topping at 287c per kg, dairy steers 225c per kg.

1134 yearlings and vealers yarded, mainly vealers which still showed fresh and good muscling.  The best of the milk vealers sold to 310c per kg, mainly 270c to 290c per kg for steers and 260c to 275c per kg for heifers.  All fully firm on last week’s strong sale.  Good grass fed yearling steers sold to 285c with heifers to 280c per kg.  A very solid sale.

318 cows yarded.  Cows are weighing in vendors favour due to the effects of the good season.  Strong demand saw cow prices lift 10 to 12 cents in a very strong sale.

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.  

3215 sheep sold, 736 less than last week.  While numbers were reduced, quality was very mixed.  The usual array of buyers was present although not fully active.  Dry skins were prominent amongst agent’s runs, the bonus being very active restocking orders, making the lighter end buoyant.  Wholesaler and trade buyers alike purchased light trade lambs from $84 to $124 mixed with the numerous store orders at $62 to $138.  Medium rounded trade lambs at 20 to 22kg sold from $138 to $158 averaging $6.80/kg.  Export lambs were from $157 to $187 in the 24 to 26kg range, while extra heavy export lambs sold $178 to $202 for 26 to 30kg.  Xb hgts sold from $65 to $122 and there was a good run of xb ewes from $55 to $125.
